Marion Fogli
Marion Fogli has spent more than twenty years working in hospitality and Swiss finance. Over the years, she began to notice the same pattern: behind very different relationships with money was often a single, recurring phrase.
The turning point
Just over ten years ago, Marion was leading a digital transformation project for a wealth manager. As she brought together the accounts of high-net-worth clients, bank by bank, something unexpected happened. She stopped seeing numbers. She started seeing stories.
A series of small, discreet withdrawals over several months. On paper, just another line on a statement. In reality, sometimes the first sign of a divorce taking shape long before anyone said the words out loud.
Behind every transaction was a story. An emotion. Sometimes a dream. Sometimes a fear. Things no spreadsheet could capture.
The idea never left her.
In 2019, she co-founded Alpian, which would go on in 2022 to become the first digital private bank in Switzerland to be granted a banking licence by FINMA. Building a bank from the ground up confronted her, day after day, with one question that would eventually become the heart of Finance Made Human: why do intelligent, informed, educated people make financial choices that seem so unlike them?
The conviction
Money problems are rarely just about the math. They play out across four dimensions: cognitive, emotional, relational and behavioural. What we believe. What we feel. What we don’t say. And what we actually do. You can’t understand your relationship with money through a spreadsheet. You understand it. You call it out. You learn to live with it.
It sounds obvious. And yet finance still almost always starts with the numbers.
